NB-ESTATES in Het Nieuwsblad and Gazet van Antwerpen: Record number of Belgians bought residence in Spain last year!

Last year, as many as 4649 Belgians bought a residence in Spain. This is according to the latest figures from the Spanish Statistical Institute. The Costa Blanca region with Benidorm remains the most popular.

Spanish property prices have risen slightly over the past year but that does not prevent compatriots from buying a second residence there in large numbers. This is according to the latest figures from the Spanish National Institute of Statistics. A total of 4649 Belgians or Belgian families bought a residence in Spain. That is still just higher than the absolute record year 2022 when 4,635 Belgians bought a residence in Spain.

"The house and flat market in Spain remains hugely popular with Belgians, and this despite the rise in prices which has meant that Spaniards in particular have bought less in their own country" says Carl Vorsselmans of the firm New Construction in Spain. The man has a good overview of the Spanish property market. "We know from figures from previous years that almost half of all Belgians look for their place in the province of Alicante, with Benidorm and Torrevieja, on the Costa Blanca, as the absolute top places."

Besides the Alicante region, the Costa Del Sol and Tenerife are at three the most popular places for Belgians in Spain. "But by some distance. The Costa Blanca has a huge range of properties and therefore a good price-quality ratio. The region is extremely easy to reach, even by car and guaranteed 300 days of sunshine a year. Moreover, there is the historical presence of Belgians in Benidorm and the surrounding area. Indeed, they seek each other out a bit which makes Belgians mainly settle there."
